Lelystad is the capital of the province of Flevoland. The city is named after Cornelis Lely, the man who made it possible to close off the Zuiderzee. Lelystad is a beautiful city with special architecture and beautiful nature reserves. Lelystad offers a lot of entertainment for young and old. Water is central to this city. Urk and Schokland

It is also worthwhile to visit the lighthouse of Urk. From Urk you can take the ferry or original fishing boat to Enkhuizen, this is an experience in itself. Not far from Urk you will find Schokland. Schokland is a former island in the Zuiderzee and is seen as the symbol of the Dutch struggle against the water. It is a special place where nature is especially worthwhile.

Oostvaardersplassen
The Oostvaardersplassen are one of the most unspoilt nature reserves in Europe. The area is part of the Nieuw Land National Park. The draining of Flevoland has transformed this area into a beautiful wetland area. Because of this you will find many different birds. The dikes in this area are even called "bird boulevards". You also have the chance to spot the largest herd of wild horses in Europe in the Oostvaardersplassen.

The tulip route
In the Noordoostpolder you will find the longest tulip route in the Netherlands. National Geographic even named this route one of the most beautiful car routes in the world. Escape the hustle and bustle of Keukenhof, but visit the tulip route on Flevoland. The car route is more than 100 kilometers, where you drive along beautiful views. It is the most colorful car route in the Netherlands. You can of course travel (part of) the route by bicycle or on foot. An example is the "garden route", of 19 kilometers.

Batavialand
Batavialand is a heritage park about water and land in the Netherlands. You will be taken into the world of historic shipbuilding in the Golden Age. You will learn about the VOC here and volunteers are there to tell you all about it. You will also find the largest wreck graveyard in the world here. The more than 450 wrecks that have been found in Flevoland can still be recognized by the poles that protrude above them.

Walibi
Walibi is one of the largest and best-known theme parks in the Netherlands. It offers more than 30 spectacular attractions for all age groups. The amusement park is especially recommended if you like roller coasters. Yet there is also plenty to do for the little ones, so that everyone has a fun day out. The park is located in Biddinghuizen. Every year in August, the Lowlands festival is organized in Biddinghuizen. This festival is then next to Walibi. Lowlands is a three-day music festival.

HISWA in-water
HISWA te water is an event for all water enthusiasts. The HISWA Boat show opens the water sports season annually in March and closes the water sports season in September. The event is held in Lelystad, in the Bataviahaven. During HISWA te water you can experience everything on the water and the quay. It is the only in-water boat show in the Netherlands. You can explore the latest water gadgets. The event is for young and old. There are sailing lessons for children and you can also take trial lessons yourself. Or watch the exciting competitions.
