Limburg is the most southern province of our country. The entire province lives for Burgundian life. You will find the historic cities of Maastricht and Roermond. But smaller towns are also fun to visit. Think for example of Valkenburg or Thorn. In addition to the Burgundian, the province also has a lot to offer in terms of nature. In short, you have a lot to discover here.

Whoever says Maastricht, says Vrijthof, André Rieu or Sint-Pietersberg. The Vrijthof is the popular square in the middle of Maastricht. It is a city surrounded by beautiful nature. You will find historic streets there. With the city center right on the Maas, you will have a nice view of the water from many places. The center is best explored on foot, then you will soon be unable to escape the shopping streets and picturesque alleys. Near Maastricht you will find the Bonnefanten Museum. The Bonnefantenmuseum is a unique combination of old and contemporary art. You can also visit Fort Sint Pieter in Maastricht. The fort is located on the Sint-Pietersberg. The caves of St. Peter are located directly below the fort.

Roermond is a "episcopal city" which means that there are beautiful churches to see. For example, there is the St. Christopher's Cathedral and the Friars Minor Church. Near Roermond you will find the beautiful nature reserves Maasplassen and National Park de Meinweg. You can enjoy walking or cycling here. What Roermond is best known for is the largest designer outlet in the Benelux. Here you will find 150 stores with more than 200 brands. In Roermond you can shop major brands for discounts of up to 70%.

Venlo is the second largest city in Limburg after Maastricht. Venlo is a green city right on the Maas. The old town offers space for many terraces. The burgundy appearance is clearly visible here. From Venlo you are close to the amusement park Toverland. Toverland, located in Sevenum, is a rapidly emerging amusement park that continues to expand. Ultimately, Toverland wants to be just as big as Efteling.

Nature in Limburg
In Limburg you will find several beautiful nature reserves. De Groote Peel National Park is located on the border of Limburg and North Brabant. The Peel area is one of the most bird-rich nature reserves in Western Europe. You will find a lot of swamp, open moors, quiet woods and rugged sandy areas. The Meinweg, east of Roermond, is a special nature reserve. It is a hilly landscape. You will also find the Maasplassen near Roermond. The Maasplassen is all about water sports. To get a good impression of the area, you can use one of the boat tours.

Valkenburg aan de Geul
Valkenburg aan de Geul is only a small municipality. The town is close to Maastricht. Yet it is not for nothing that Valkenburg annually attracts masses of tourists. Visitors come for caves and mines with paintings from the Roman era. You can also visit Valkenburg Castle. From the castle you have a magnificent view of the beautiful Limburg landscape. You will also find the spa Thermae 2000 in Valkenburg, where you can enjoy a modern spa.

Another small town is the white town of Thorn. Thorn used to be a tiny principality, but nowadays it attracts many visitors. The place is known for its white painted monuments and buildings. The town has a special history, you can learn more about this in the Land van Thorn municipal museum. Do not miss the Abbey Church and after a city walk you can visit one of the cozy terraces.

Landgraaf's name is due to a very special prehistoric canal that runs through the area. Today this dry moat, known as the "Landgraaf", connects the residential areas of the area with the beautiful surroundings, consisting mainly of heather. Once a year Pinkpop is organized in Landgraaf. Pinkpop is a well-known multi-day festival. You can also visit SnowWorld in Landgraaf. In these large snow halls you can ski, snowboard and après-ski.
